Burning cheap candles

What are your thoughts on cheap candles?
I've been bought one from card factory (the ones that look like Yankee candles) but I don't think I'm going to use it. I always worry about the chemicals in cheap ones around the kids.

Am I being totally ridiculous? I hate the thought of someone wasting their money on me

If it smells nice maybe just leave the lid off without burning

I do like Yankee Candles but I like my new cats better .

DD has a Pomegranate Margerita YC that smells gorgeous (bought pre-cats) so she just uses as a scent block.

(Some of the YC smell like dirty socks I find Envy < not envy)

I bought the ones from Aldi that are dupes of Jo Malone ones, they smell amazing.

Cheap candles are usually cheap because they are made from paraffin wax. I wouldn’t not burn them but they will produce toxins in the air so best to burn them in fairly open spaces and not small rooms. Soy wax or beeswax candles are better especially with children or animals around.

toxins...chemicals....yeah yeah. Naked flames round kids are a bad idea for other reasons.

open the windows to clear smells. Stinky candles, air 'fresheners' (more stink) and plug ins (stink that uses electricity) are all abominations.

I’m pretty sure the soy wax is worse than paraffin because of the chemicals that are added to it to make it hold scent, last longer etc. I remember there being warnings against cheap spy candles when I was a child.

A lot of people our Zoflora and fabric conditioners on their radiators, which is probably even worse in terms of toxic chemicals!

wondering7777 · 08/03/2020 14:16

Our = put

PristineCondition · 08/03/2020 14:16

The chances are they are the same stuff that's in Yankee.

It’s all polluting, you’re burning fossil fuels. Wax + oxygen = carbon dioxide and water.
