Rayburn/ Aga or not to Aga

Does anyone have any experience of either. WE were hit by the flooding in July and so need a new boiler and a new cooker. We thought we would get a Rayburn and combine the two but a plumber just came round bemoaning how they never work etc etc. He thinks we should just get a new boiler and a new cooker. Any ideas?

We have an oil fired AGA which heats our hot water. It is fantastic and I love it. Cooks beautifully, keeps the kitchen and the rooms above really warm, looks great, dries and airs clothes, lunch boxes and a multitude of other things.

Do you find it needs servicing/ breaks down alot? How long have you had it?

agas are great, you can get reconditioned ones which are cheaper than new. Need to be serviced about once a year. They are expensive to run though

Sorry if this is a silly question, but if you get a multifunction Aga, does it make the kitchen really hot in the summer?

Our kitchen gets full sun pretty much most of the day and gets v v v hot.

yes kitchen can get v. hot don't need any other source of heat even in depth of winter. We usually turn ours off in mid summer (not this year though ). If this is a problem for you and you wanted something to do your hot water you might be best off with a rayburn.
Agas provide heat all the time but are slow to heat up. Rayburns heat up v. quickly and oven is only put on when you need it.

We have lovely Aga, is brilliant, because its on all the time you can just bung stuff in without waiting for oven to get up to temperature, can keep stuff warm, fab.
Kitchen does get hot though, specially ours as it isn't brilliantly ventilated, only 1 small window.
We have had it serviced once in 3 years which was quite expensive - the motor or something had gone, so it lost heat.
But we use it all the time. The people who lived here before us put it in and put a modern range cooker the other side of the kitchen as well. We have only used that when the Aga was off...
