I'm happy to invest in gadgetry that doesn't take up too much space in order to avoid having a window cleaner, but has anyone any experience of successfully cleaning upstairs windows?

Why wouldn't you want a window cleaner? They have all the gadgets etc.

I just don't want more peopling in my life & having another regular bill & having change ready & having to have them cleaned every month when less would do etc.

I will if there's no other way but would rather do it myself if poss

You could buy a long handled brush but suspect youd get soaked.

I use a sonic scrubber, baking soda, vinegar and elbow grease spray. Works a treat. Window cleaners are an unnecessary hassle. It can be a bit finicky but it’s definitely possible

I’ve got a kind of long handles squeegeeing thingy that I bought from B&M that is especially for this

Depends on the windows, sometimes you can reach from indoors. Sash windows you usually can (the panes go right past each other). We have modern windows, UPVC type thing, and the hinge has a safety catch you can undo so they open wider and you can reach round the hinge side - specifically designed to clean it.

I have a window cleaner though.

It might be worth contacting a window cleaner. I'm never home when he comes, I pay online, I get notice by email that he's coming and he comes only once every 8 weeks at his suggestion. He cleans them far better than I could as well!

Someone on mumsnet recommended a magnetic window cleaner. I bought one and it's fab! Not as good as someone on the outside scrubbing away all the dirt but it's definitely worth £29. Go for the stronger magnetic to cope with thick glass if you have double glazing:

It's currently £15 from Amazon Warehouse!

@AhoyMrBeaver. we have the same arrangement with our window cleaner. He does a monthly round but we only have him.every other month. He texts us beforehand so we leave the garden gate unlocked, he drops his card through the door so we know he's been and we pay him online.
We are usually at work when he comes so it's not a big interference in our lives
