How do you sort your clothes when using a dryer?

Curious how others use their dryer for clothing laundry as I'm new to the world of dryers.

I wash by colour, and am thinking I should sort by fabric?

Cottons and thicker fabrics on the cotton cupboard dry setting

Polyesters and lighter garments on the synthetics cupboard dry setting

Is that right?

Obviously bras and delicates will be air dried

Whatever has just been in the washing machine gets put in the drier (air dry stuff removed) and turned on the same setting. Done.

Sounds about right. I tend not to use the cotton setting for clothes though, as they can shrink. Fine for towels and bedding.

I just put everything in and switch in. Never had a problem yet

I just chuck it all in too but makes sense to sort by material weight I guess.

@ChippyMinton that's what I was worried about... do you just use a synthetics setting instead?

I look at the care label. Anything with one dot goes on synthetics, anything with two or no dots goes on cottons. Anything with a cross gets air dried.

I managed to shrink my cashmere blend socks by putting them on the wrong setting but at least they're a cute size for small children now I have no small children

Just use the synthetic/lower heat setting for clothes and the high heat for towels. Remember to remove any clothes that need air drying though.

I just shove it all in on strong dry.

Shove it all in (except bras, tights, adult trousers and work tops/dresses which are all air dried) on eco dry setting.

I use the cotton setting for sheets and towels or a synthetics section for everything else. Pick out any air drying items while transferring from washing machine. The only things we don't tumble are football socks and sports clothing which is more or less dry straight from the washing machine.

I don’t sort clothing at all , anything that’s in the laundry bin gets put in the wash and then anything that gets tumbled gets put in the tumble dryer until it’s dry .

I sort by wet or dry. Wet goes into the dryer and dry goes into the drawers.

For those who don't sort or chuck it all on hot, don't your clothes get damaged? Sports socks and tops, tights and wool all shrink and T shirts (or DH's novelty batman boxers) with the rubbery decals on them will crack, melt or stick to itself.

I don't sort my wash by what will go in the dryer. I do the usual sorting by colour, then put the load on the high setting in the dryer, after removing any non-tumble-dry items, which go on the radiator in winter or on the washing line. I find that anything that says it can go in the dryer at all is fine on high setting. I never use the low setting - it's too slow!

I put t-shirts with rubbery decals in the dryer and have never had them melt or stick.

Throw it all in, pulling out anything I think might shrink as I go, and switch it on.

The only items that I tumble dry are towels, sheets and dressing gowns. Everything gets shoved in on the cotton setting.

Everything else gets air dried, as I've found that tumble drying really shortens the lifespan of clothing.

I just chuck everything from the machine straight into the dryer on ‘mix’ setting and hope for the best

We've had the occasional issue with rubber decals on tee shirts but don't really have them now the DCs are older. No wool clothing either. Tights don't shrink in ours. Sports socks do though.

I chuck it all in. I don't have much synthetic fabric. Sometimes something heavy in an otherwise lighter load might still be a bit damp but I stick that on a radiator for an hour et voila.

I do think that a good brisk shake before going in is important for heavy things though, makes them dry more evenly and done out less creased. I also dry (and wash) dark jeans inside out as otherwise the dryer can leave paler marks where any folds were.

I take out the clothes I don't want shrunk (ie my own ) to air dry. Then everything else goes on at low heat with the little symbol that looks like an iron. DH puts everything on low heat with the symbol that looks like the sun.

You must have a posh tumble dryer with different fabric settings. Ours is a washer/dryer. Even my mum's all singing and all dancing one just has high/low and a timer.

Ours has got about 15 settings but we only ever use 3 of them.

I take out stuff that needs air drying and then put everything else in the dryer. The only exception would be towels and jeans, they take much longer so I do put them in separately. None of us own anything with rubber decals so I can't comment about how to dry those things.
