HELP!! Get rid of cat smell!!

Yadiya · 19/02/2020 23:02

Hello all
Please help

Just bought our first house
Knew cats lived here, but when viewing it was never a very strong smell. Thought it was because they didn't open their windows

House is well maintained
Has new bamboo flooring in 2 bedrooms

Smell is the worst in main bedroom and in the kitchen

To make it fun, I am also 34 weeks pregnant

So far we have tried
Baking powder mixed with essential oils on floor
Mop with vinegar/water solution
Mop with Zoflora anti odour
Poured down a whole bottle of domestos bleach in kitchen floor- it made it really clean, but I can still smell it

Bought an air purifier today, and hopefully it's too early to tell, but so far think it's making it worse

Husband just started a new job really far away, so is too tired to try repainting the walls

Any ideas welcome

I am going crazy here!!!

Try washing down with biological washing liquid. Good luck!

Pet shop (eg Pets At Home) sell a liquid with 'good bacteria' (or whatever) that reacts with cat piss to neutralise it. Soak the floor undiluted and leave for an afternoon. Mop up (careful - it's a weirdly slippy liquid!)

This stuff really does work

Google for advice using keywords 'cat urine', hydrogen peroxide' and 'bicarbonate of soda'. It's a faff, but it works.

You can buy a purple light from Amazon and elsewhere to shine in the dark to see where you need to scrub.

Following as my house smells like cats (but we love them). I've bought two of those lights so far and neither work for me. Also bought several sprays and additive for my upholstery cleaner, but they don't seem to help. Considering having sofas and carpets professionally cleaned.

Sorry @Yadiya here's the cat one

From bitter experience, it has probably gone through the flooring and the smell will be coming from underneath. I tried everything with no luck. The only thing that got rid of it was removing the flooring and replacing it, after cleaning the floorboards/concrete.

Hopefully someone knows of something amazing that can help.
