Day 11

Todays reminders

Today is another not very excitig addition to the routine (Guess who isn't adding an "inspirational page" to her non-existant control journal? I'm not skipping it though so we can all have another day to try and do a 2 min hotspot, and a 15 min declutter as well as our morning and evening routines.

alycat - don't feel bad....your childrens needs come way above decluttering. You wll get a chance to do it all eventually. We al have days (or weeks!) when it just doesn't work. Shine our sink when you can, and anythin else is a bonus.

lol@ SMS and your vandalised sink.

Welcome TheMadHouse

Thanks Jas, as it is a light day I will try and keep up!

I read a reminder (?) -see I did those yesterday! - that said 'Just jump in where you are' perhaps I should just do it to the best of my current (child hampered) ability and not worry that everyone is doing better than me.

Also that was a bit self indulgent ranting yesterday, sorry.

Happy FLYing all.

FunkyGlassSlipper · 04/09/2007 08:55

Morning Guys,

welcome madhouse

lol @ sms' sink

Right everyone, this isnt a competition. This is about getting on top of our own houseweork. Some of the babysteps are really naff but that is so that we continue to do the good ones like hotspots and 15 mins and dont get overwhelmed, so perhaps we were naughty skipping some

Lets all try and make sure that by the end of the day we have:
a shiny sink,
swish & swipe,
have done a 2 minute hotspot,
a 5 minute hotspot,
and a 15 minutes slot.

That should take a total of about 20 minutes. If we can do something like a load of washing then great but if not then at least we've done something and it will help keep us on track.

My DD is still not well. Temp dipping and peaking and generally grumpy. I'm out later too so will do what I can.

Good luck to anyone who has children going back to school today!

FunkyGlassSlipper · 04/09/2007 08:56

erm....25 mins. I can add up honest

ludaloo · 04/09/2007 09:53

Hello

sms lol @ your vandalised sink!

blossom thankyou I'm feeling a lot better today...my only dread is that I have no idea when on earth they are going to occur...that's the awful bit!

Well I have a good few hours now to do some flying, so I'll get stuck in....I don't have a control journal however...so won't be doing today's babystep.

winemakesmummyclever · 04/09/2007 10:21

Morning folks

Had almost a day off yesterday - did the morning and night-time routine stuff and a bit of washing. We had to go over to the Wirral to the PIL's and see BIL's new house - on the plus side, the sink really did stay shiny all day

I did go quite mad on Sunday and decluttered lots of places (including ds's downstairs toybox). Dh says he's noticed the place is a lot tidier, so I must be doing something right.

I have done my morning routines & hoovered downstairs so far. Got a load of stuff to drop off at charity shop, then off to ikea & staples. Picnic this pm if the weather stays dry (yeah, right I live on the Pennines, but I can hope ).

BTW, does anyone know how to change the language used in texts on a Nokia n80? Ds has played with it and now I can only text in French.

Have a good day.

harleyd · 04/09/2007 11:28

hi everyone
just back with dd2 from nursery. im finding it easier in the mornings to get up & dressed & moving and have mastered getting my sink shiny before i leave on the school run!
i am going to continue with upstairs today - at this rate my upstairs should be respectable by xmas
and i have meat defrosting for dinner. havent got to work tonight so its a bit more relaxed today
have a good day everybody

tibni · 04/09/2007 12:47

Hi all, bit of a blip yesterday but determined to have a better day today.

Have a good day all

TheMadHouse · 04/09/2007 14:42

Hello All

I have done my morning routine
S&S in the ensuite
Dinner for tonight
2 min hotspot

Will try to do the 15 min declutter later, must go as the boys are awake.

FunkyGlassSlipper · 04/09/2007 16:45

Hi Guys,

Been out with DD to get her first pair of glasses (pic on profile) so havent done anything since this morning. Did S&S, D/W and clean sink though

ludaloo · 04/09/2007 17:09

Awwww FGS Your DD's are soooo cute!! I think the glasses look great! Is she getting used to them?

BigBearistheBigBear · 04/09/2007 19:42

Can a five-minute room rescue just be tidying the toys away properly at the end of the day? Otherwise I am a bit mystified - how do you choose a room? What do you do?

Think I understand hot spots now...

Jas · 04/09/2007 19:53

5 minute room rescue by FLYlady. Toy tidying at the end of the day sounds like a good job though, too.

My evenng routine is working quite well. I am finding time in the day to do stuff, as the downstairs is ok if I shine the sink, put away toys and hoover between putting ds and the dds to bed.

Tonight is the first night with all 3 in together. Not sure how well it is going to work.

OP posts:
ludaloo · 04/09/2007 20:57

Hi all...I'm up with still a bit of a list to go before I can get to bed.

I have managed to do the following today:

~Get up and get dressed
~Put out a Hot Spot for 2 minutes
~5 Minute Room Rescue 9in living room and kitchen)
5 Minutes Decluttering (didn't do 15 mins...as I didn't have time)

My routine helped me this morning, with everyone back to school...
I had put DD1's clothes all layed out on her toy box, and she came into my room this morning fully dressed! Without me even getting up yet!
DS twigged his were on his toy box and he too went off to get dressed.
I've done the same tonight too...so they can find everything in the morning.

SlightlyMadSCAREYthing · 04/09/2007 21:29

Evening all....hope all those with poorly households are getting better soon....my sink has been vandalised again...I think it is something I am going to have to get used to. I guess teh plus side is that the school lunchboxes have actually been washed before I get back.

I havn't had a wonderful day today...by the time I get in from Work at 4:40pm, DP goes out to work at 5:45pm, leaving me to deal with
tea for DCs,
spellings2,
reading
2,
wordlists*2,
poorly DD3,
tantrumming DTD1,
bathtime and bedtime,
lunchboxes

DP got in at 7:45 tonight then we have had tea. So far (other than the above) the things that I have done that can be construed as FLYladyish are:

Got dressed to lace up shoes
Hotspotted the kitchen worktop
Hotspotted the top of the telly
washed up and shined my sink

And I have finally just sat down. I just can't fit the 15minuters in every day, especially when DD3 is poorly.

I am sorry I am letting you (and myself) slip - but I honestly am happy that I am getting on top of it. I am doing hotspots regularly and I am keeping my sink and worktops clean and clutter free.

SlightlyMadSCAREYthing · 04/09/2007 21:32

Oh and I think you are right about not skipping. I think there are deliberately a few days where you essentially add nothing practicle. I think it is so you can have a couple of days doing the same without adding more to the routine until you get used to it IYSWIM.

FunkyGlassSlipper · 04/09/2007 21:38

sms - no appologies please! You're doing great.

Probably not s&s'ing yet but old habits die hard.

Poorly house so not much done. Have a kitchen to clear but am on MN instead. will ensure i do it before i go to bed...

pobletsmum · 04/09/2007 21:57

ludaloo - glad you're feeling better and that the clothes thing is working well for your DCs.

SMS - vandalised sink

I'm really impressed that everyone is keeping up so well with all their FLYing. I'm certainly not. Haven't managed a single 5min room rescue or 15min de-clutter yet. Failing miserably with the leaving clothes out thing, although I'm trying my best. Two nights running I've left clothes out for myself and DS, then changed my mind in the morning when I've looked outside at the weather. I have been checking the forecast in advance, but I've been unlucky two days running. So this morning, I had to iron a different top before going to work not exactly what FLYlady had in mind...

On the plus side, I have kept up with a shiny sink and dressing to shoes, plus the hotspots I cleared last week are still clear. I've also been reading the reminders daily. I feel as though I'm a complete FLY failure but I am determined to try again from tomorrow.

BigBearistheBigBear · 04/09/2007 22:58

Thanks Jas. I know toy tidying should get done every night anyway, but sometimes it doesn't. This might mean it always always gets done!

We are planning a third child eventually, so if things go to plan we will end up with three kids in one room too, at least for a while. Hope everyone's sleeping soundly at your houe tonight! We live in a victorian terrace and we're swapping rooms tomorrow so the girls are in the master bedroom and we're in the smaller room.

Have done no decluttering today .

Oh blimey, WOHMs, I'm finding it tough to fit everything in being home all day, let alone if I was trying to go to work as well. (Unfortunately I will be back at work only too soon ).

blossomsmine · 04/09/2007 23:15

Hi all, abit late popping in today, been working so not had much time.
Not done any decluttering or hotspotting, or ironing
I have done the basics, morning and evening routine, but nothing extra.
Paid a bill i have been putting off for ages, actually felt abit relieved when i had done that!
Done a load of washing, but can't get round to ironing it.
I did manage to cook a big batch of spag bol and put a few cartons in the freezer for when i am busy next week, i am planning to try and get quite a few meals in the freezer.

I really hope everyone is feeling better now

winemakesmummyclever · 04/09/2007 23:21

Thanks Jas for the links.

Just a quick check in before bed. Have had a good day - managed morning & night routines (including sweeping kitchen floor x 2), hoovered, 1 load of washing, & bed change. Living room is ok. Decluttered dressing tables & s&s all bathrooms/loos & prepped evening meal in advance & planned tomorrow's too. Plus a bit of shopping, gardening & MNing in between. A pretty productive day really, and it didn't feel rushed or hard work.

Hoping to reorganise my study over the next few days. Really hope I can keep this up.
I'm with poblet on the clothes thing though - I'll get out what I think is suitable only to find it's too warm/cold for it. British summertime eh?
