Washing powder or liquid ?

I’ve been told different things about what’s better for your washing machine , powder or liquid
I normally just buy whatever is on offer but does anyone know if it actually makes any difference to the machine what you use

powder is better for the machine, but not compatible with the septic tank that is here. Hence liquid has to be used.

washing machine cheaper to replace and less essential than the septic tank.

and yes, use half or less of what is recommended. And no fabric conditioner, suckerbait.
