I've had laminate floors put down for the first last time! Since getting them They have had to be swept twice a day, I use floor wipes once a day and yet they are still scuffy and dusty when I'm going to bed.
Surely they shouldn't be this much work?

Just think though- the dust that you are sweeping up actually goes INTO your carpet and festers if you have a carpet

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 03/09/2007 10:08

PF I generally find that the dust festers in my hoover.

Mhamai · 03/09/2007 10:10

I am feckin dusting! The blard hairs are coming off the sweeping brush and I do hover!

Get yourself one of those Swiffer things Mhamai- the dust'll stick to that. Sweeping is a pita

Mhamai · 03/09/2007 12:11

Thanks Pixiefish, what's a squiffy though? Oh and any tips other than the floor wipes that just seems to make more marks? Have been told not to get it wet.

swiffer is a mop type thing that you use with just a duster type anti static cloth on the end. no water

Pixiefish · 03/09/2007 12:20

here

Mhamai · 03/09/2007 12:30

Pixie I could kiss you! Thanks at me calling it a squiffy.

mhamai I use that swifter thingy too and it is good. however resign yourself, you'll have to sweep at all times.

The difference from carpets is that you do see the dust and so clean it up and the floor is cleaner and if someone wees or throws up on the floor you can clean it in a jiffy.

more higenic but a PITA nevertheless.

I use a swiffer type thing but the head of ours comes off and goes in the washing machine instead of having to buy the sheets all the time. I think I got it from Morrisons.

And I also use a bowl of hot water, wood floor cleaner and a mop. You just need to make sure you wring the mop out very wll to void over wetting the floor.

LegoLeia · 05/09/2007 12:34

Another vote for the vileda laminate floor mop (swiffer) here (got it from morrisons) - you just take the fluffy bit off and pop it in the washing machine. One swiff a day after tea keeps our floor reasonably spick and span!

chloesmumtoo · 06/09/2007 12:56

oh that sounds good. What does it wash on. dd has dustmite allergy and like to kill them off at 60 lol.

TheChickenLady · 06/09/2007 13:36

I have the vileda swiffer thing too, use it slightly damp and you can get laminate floor cleaner too from the supermarket.
