Ironing

Hi, wondered if anyone can help me here.

We have succumbed (again) and have just arranged to give our babysitter a trial run on the ironing.

What I would like to know is how much is reasonable pay per hour and how much ironing can we expect her to do??

It has been so long since I have had the luxury of someone else doing the ironing that we are completely at a loss as to costs.

Thanks

B

If I had to pay someone to do my ironing, I would prefer to pay by the amount they iron. If I was doing someones ironing, then by the hour would be great as I could take as long as I wanted to

No idea what the going rate is though, would love someone to come and do all my ironing, I have loads of it!

I pay £7 per hour to get DH shirts done. Seems pretty reasonable to me but I have no idea if it is compared to others. I think we paid 85p per shirt where we used to live and they also charged by weight for everything else at the rate of about £1.25 per lb. However that was about 3.5 years ago.

I pay 50p per item for adult items and 25p per item for childrens.

My friend pays a lady £6.00 per hour

Ok, this lady has suggested £10 for 1 and a half hours, rough guesstimate on how much she will do pleeeeaase

I pay my lady £15 for an hour and a half. In that time she does pretty much all our weekly ironing (basically a large basket load). If there are lots of DH's shits or duvet covers then I end up paying £18 - 20.

Niecie · 02/09/2007 19:18

Our ironing lady would probably do about 12-15 shirts/tops/trousers and 2 duvet cover/pillowcase sets for that. Maybe a bit more.

Are they coming to your house to do this? Do you have to pay for collection/delivery as well?

We used to pay £7 per hour and our lovely cleaner would iron our bed linen (40 mins) 5 of DH's shirts, couple of pairs of trousers and maybe three of my shirts in 2 hours. I do miss her!

Slubberdegullion, love your typo. Haven't laughed as much since I watched You've Been Framed last night. And yes, I do know I have a mental age of about 3 years old!

Niecie · 02/09/2007 19:37

Madlab I laughed too so probably share the same mental age but the mental image of the ironing process is hard to shift.

Bibis · 02/09/2007 20:17

Thanks for all this, she is coming to our house and will do it whilst babysitting, obv paying for both but we are just drowning under ironing pile (dh ironing shirts now whilst recovering from snip )
