Soot from candles

Any ideas on how to clean candle soot from ceilings and walls ?

Dont wipe with a cloth!! I smeared it all over the bloody place. Cant remember how I got rid of it! I use battery candles these days.

I agree... do not wipe it with a dry or damp cloth I too spread it everywhere, sorry OP but the only way I got rid of it was repainting.

I’ve also made he same mistake as PP. Luckily my wall paint is washable so I just kept washing out a cloth with soapy water, however I’ll need to re paint my ceiling as it stained it.. OH was not amused after only just recently having decorated that room..

Cif - called Jif in Australia - will clean everything and more. I put some drops on a squeezed clean sponge . Maybe try on a small area.
