Hi,
We have a sofa and chair in beautiful, and seemingly indestructible, Harris tweed. I think they are 6 years old and they look virtually new, no piling at all. The sofa is a neutral heather tone and is showing some stains - hot chocolate, banana and some slime🙄.
Last weekend I made a very dilute warm water and washing up liquid solution and cleaned along the direction of the fabric with a flannel. Initially, whilst wet, it looked quite blotchy with water marks, but when fully dried it looked cleaner. The food stains are still there but lighter/less noticeable. The slime is as vivid as ever.
Does anyone have any experience of how to properly clean tweed, please?
I want to prolong the life of the chair and sofa for as long as possible (forever, if possible?). The amazing smell has dimmed, but I occasionally get a reminder of it if the door has been closed to the room for a while.
