Recommend me a carpet cleaning system to hire

I've got carpet on my stairs and landing that needs cleaning. I've used Rug Doctor in the past, but wasn't too impressed. Last year I hired something different from Hire (can't remember what) and it was worse - it didn't seem to actually suck up the liquid.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

No help at all but I'm lurking, I have the same .

We have carpet in bedrooms and the hall/stairs/landing.

I have a heavy cumbersome (and bloody useless) Vax upright and a lightweight Shark rocket ( but when the brush gets chocked up with DD hair it just floats across the carpet doing nought)
Add two cats and their litter , DD who spills coffee on the carpet Hmm , I am thinking , "I need to properly clean and shampoo it"

There's products that foam and you apply on a sponge roller brush ( used to be No-Wet Wonder Foam but I don't know if that exists still)

I use a rubber brush ( Brush Buddy) on the stairs .
I bought a JML rubber broom and it is so much better (with less effort than lugging the bloody Vax about) at lifting grit and cat fur from the carpet . (I think the Vax needs to go to Vacuum Heaven )

I;m going to try the steamer (I found a carpet attachment ) on it., it should leave the carpet near dry , unlike the shampoo-ers . I have to be careful with detergents because of the moggies .

I've bitten the bullet and hired a Rug Doctor for tomorrow. I had a look in the supermarket and the - I think - Vanish product for large areas of carpet said for use with bagged hoovers only, and we have bagless. So not wanting to risk the bloody Dyson, I'm going back to something that I know isn't very good.

I don't have pets, but DD22 has a habit of taking cups of tea to her bedroom and not cleaning up any spills along the way.

Will look out for a Brush Buddy.
