Any clever people know if it is worth me washing my dry clean only curtains? I have two sets of them in my lounge, they are fully lined and i think they are a cotton material.........what do you reckon then?? It costs a fortune for dry cleaning{shock]

How much did they cost? How old are they? How much would it cost to replace them if they are ruined? What is the cost of dry cleaning them? Can you fit them in your washing machine or would you have to take them to a launderette? I'll be wondering this for my new(ish) lounge full length lined curtains next Spring btw!

DH washed half of our bedroom ones and they shrank (which is ironic as they are blackout lined, he has issues with light coming into the room, and now there is a gaping gap on one side...I think he did them quite high temperature though, and they were homemade. Can't afford to replace them..

wouldn't risk it. If it says dry clean only there is likely to be a risk of shrinkage

Have washed my lined cotton curtains a number of times and they've shrunk each time despite me washing them at 30. Fortunately I learnt from a previous experience (where I had to replace them) and made these 1 metre too long (it's a 3.9m drop). They are now a perfect fit, so I suppose next time'll be the dry clean / replace them time for us. They are 5 years old though.

Thanks everyone. Don't think i will be washing them, i couldn't afford to replace them at the moment so i suppose it would be stupid to take the chance. Shame.

Good call blossomsmine

My living room curtains said wash at 60deg. I washed at 40, and they shrank anyway!

There's now a 2ft gap underneath where they don't reach the floor. Cats sometimes come into the garden and peep in, scaring me to death

katsma and the peeping cats!!
