Making a house smell clean and fresh

Hi

I just moved into a new house that was renovated and it smells of new paint, dust, brand new carpets (bit chemically) and just not very welcoming.

I gave it a clean of the dust and grub when I moved in, but it's not smelling clean and fresh like I would love it to.

Apart from spraying room sprays and masking smells, any top tips for making it smell lovely?

Open all the windows for a blast of fresh air through the house.

Boil several lemons in a pot on the hob.

Put plug in sink. Poor in 1/2 bottle of zoflora. Fill with boiling water from the kettle.

It’s magical and makes the house smell great

Get some nice soap. Coal Tar or olive oil. The smell will gradually take over.

Open windows
Soaps
Cleaning products like method
Wax melts (I use laundry type scented ones) or diffusers - TK maxx always have lots and I got some clean shirt(!) scented which are lovely

Reed diffusers.

Shake and vac.

Open windows.

I can’t stand any fake smells so I’d

Open the windows
Bleach in the toilets - love the smell of bleach
Lighting matches is a good way of neutralising odours
Real flowers
Bake stuff in the oven - even those 10 minute part bakes are good if you don't bake
Coffee

I love the ‘new house’ smell. Takes me back to a happy time, long, long ago 😊

It’ll soon smell like you/your family just by living innit and using your normal products.

If it’s had a lot of work done you will find dust for weeks! Keep hoovering regularly and get the windows open. Enjoy your new home Smile

Thanks everyone! Used a lot of your ideas and it’s smelling much better!

Someone on another thread said that the air purifiers from Argos (£24.99) are good...I’m going to get one.

ChicChicChicChiclana · 27/01/2020 00:12

Open the windows.
