Occasionally our bathroom smells of wee so we give it a deep clean.

Well actually DH does. He's the bathroom cleaner in the family. When I mention it's a bit smelly he gives it a once over.

Loo cleaned daily, rest of room whenever needed (often!)

Today DH was out so I had to clean it. I'm determined to solve the mystery of the wee smell so I ran a cotton pad round the groove between the toilet and the floor. It came away yellow and smelly (DH uses the pointy bit of steam cleaner to clean this. Weekly)

So I poured bleach round the groove and then cleaned it until yellow makes and smell gone.

(Never looks dirty there, we just know it is)

My question is - how does the wee get there?

2 Male/2 female household. We all sit to pee and we all close the lid to flush.

Do we have a leak?

Should that groove have silicon round it?

Any tips?

Seal it with silicone. Should have been done by the tiler.

the males actually sit to pee?

At least one of you will be weeping between the seat and the actual toilet.

My Mrs does it and doesn’t realise. I am sure I would if I tried to sit to do a wee.

Males sit to pee ??? no way ...I can't believe that ( I live in a house with 3 Males)

How do you know the males sit down?
Even if they are, their wee could still be escaping depending on the angle of their penis and the force the wee comes out. Same for a woman if she's sitting at the front of the toilet.

The males are lazy/clean freaks. The young Male (13) is lazy and prefers to sit. My DH (clean freak) sits because it's cleaner! #blessed

I have heard that shaving foam is very good at cleaning floors / bottom of toilets which smell of wee.

Won’t make any difference. It’s coming through the gap under the seat and running down the front of the toilet.

Some women do this as mentioned above, and men will almost certainly do it if they are (bizarrely) sitting down to wee

It'll stop it getting into the groove though and make it easier to see/clean!
