Smelly Henry hoover - help!

olivertwistwantsmore · 02/01/2020 19:09

We inherited a Henry hoover from MIL but it smells of her house! How can we make it smell fresher?? I’d rather do that if possible than buy a new one...
Thanks!

Have you tried changing the bag? From the way it’s configured I’d say this is what I’d try first as ours doesn’t have any obvious filters but maybe someone else knows more.

Wash the filters and add a few drops of Zoflora to the water. And buy a new bag. Sainsbury's sell them.

olivertwistwantsmore · 02/01/2020 19:26

Will give that a go, thank you!

You can unscrew and remove the hose too maybe give it a rinse through? Obviously dry it thoroughly.

scousadelic · 02/01/2020 19:30

My cleaner has a Henry, she washes the filter, dries it then puts a few drops of Zoflora on and lets it dry before use

Hoover up a small amount of washing powder. Works a treat.

God, you lot are brilliant! Some great ideas here.

I second the washing powder I swear by it

userxx · 05/01/2020 10:31

Is the filter washable?

EllyDellgato · 26/01/2020 13:59

Henry is really unreliable, I know that from experience, if you are thinking of buying a new one I recommend a moosoo vacuum, just as good as a dyson but I found one a lot cheaper, I've been using it ever since I got it

Thanks, all! The washing powder trick worked!

Our Henry is very reliable, thank you...

My hetty has been going strong for 10 years, so reliable 👍

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 28/01/2020 07:19

Our Henry is 8yo. We got it because all the workmen visiting our house had one... And said it was indestructible.

Washing powder on floor, cotton wool soaked in perfume (zoflora might work?) And hoovered up. Change bag regularly- Wilko's have a compatible one cheaper than the branded ones. And clean it inside.

Bee2828 · 30/01/2020 15:04

Change the bag if you haven’t already. It’s probably the filter though. Wash the filter (the large white thing). Either by hand or in a very cool machine wash (I’ve washed mine the machine, it came out fine) and dry on a radiator before placing back in. You can bay vac smellies in b&m or home bargains. Little white things that make it smell nice. Only about 79p. Quite strong smelling but seems to help!

If the smelly really doesn’t go you can clean out the pipes but they are awkward to dry so I wouldn’t recommend.
