Embarrassing question... Where do I put nametags?!

Trying to sew in nametags for school uniform... Jumper and coat - fine - did back of collar, easy to see etc.

Pinafores and cardigan with slim edging though... where do I put the things?? One style of dress has a long label at the neck which I could probably attach it to sideways, but the other has the long label in the side. Does it matter how easily findable they are??

Hate iron on/write in labels with a passion - so just need advice on where to attach the sew in ones please, not a debate over which labels are best

(I know how MN threads go off on a tangent, best to plan for these things in advance )

I just sew them on to one of the garment's labels,wherever they are (very badly I might add)

On the hem - I have lost many many items! It was a real problem at the boy's first school. When I asked lsa to find them all for me, I was told that some parents cut off the label and keep the item.

Bastards.

Since then, I sew a label onto the hem AND I stitch initials into the sleeve or hem as a little secret backup!!

Not had any problems up here as it happens, but at the school down south, I was forever buying new bloody uniform. I bet I was clothing half the damn school!

I was thinking the cutting off thing too

Didn't think of the hem though - good plan!!!

down the sleeve for proof it is yours. On the collar for identifying for the staff.

is it more for her to recognise than for staff really?

if its for DD then make sure you put them in the same place on everything..ie if on the hem ona pinafore, make sure its there on all of them. i have iron ons (don't shout ) and have put them under collars and under waistbands so DS1 can see clearly (there are 4 with the same 1st name in his class!!)

maybe you could also write her initials on the label so she knows she can look there?

Eek - good point. They do need to be in the same place for her don't they or she will get all flustered.

Where she is so borderline I tend to forget that she needs the continuity.

thats what i thought. if in doubt sew onto the labels,she will know then to look for the labels to find her name x
