I have a big bag of citric acid, I used it in my kettle yesterday and it looks like new again!

It’s got me wondering what other things in the house I can use it for?

Can I use it to clean my dishwasher?

If it's good grade.
When you're chopping apples, put them in a tsp of CA mixed with 1-2 litres of water, stops them discolouring. Good rinse before use.

Making cheese.

How do you use it in a kettle? Do you add it to water and boil?

I use it for descaling too, must get some more as I've run out. It does the same descaling job as vinegar but without the smell!

Can you use it to clean the washing machine? Dishwasher?

I used to use white vinegar instead of fabric conditioner, could you put CA in the drawer instead of liquid?

Southmouth · 11/12/2019 13:15

@Jux I cleaned my dishwasher out with it yesterday!

@bluebells1 I boiled a full kettle, then added 2 spoons of citric acid and then just left it for about 15 minutes and it was absolutely spotless after!

You can use it to clean coffee machines.

Thanks, Southmouth, I'll give it a go.
