what do you use to make your laundry smell nice?

It is all a bit musty and fusty here. I normally wash everything on 40 and dry on the rack.

I am going to boil wash some shirts, sheets and polos now, but is there a nice product I might buy?

I usee powder in the drawer.

Is it drying quick enough? Sounds like it's staying damp for too long.

itsboiledeggsagain · 28/11/2019 11:21

i think it probably is, but i do my best in that regard

Do you do a second spin before taking it out? That really helps with the drying time. And do you spread the washing over 2 bars at least? So it’s got lots of airflow? We had to buy more airers to be able to do so, but no more musty smells.

I did have to use disinfectant in the wash to kill the smell at first, but since then they don’t smell anymore, as long as I do those steps to get them to dry as quickly as possible.

I use powder (doesnt bother me which one) and tesco spring fresh fabric softener. Give your detergent tray a good wash and empty your filter and if the drum seems a bit whiffy you can buy washing machine cleaner.

Was recently told by washing machine engineer that it's important not to let your machine get gunked up to begin with, so to do a 90 degree wash monthly.

itsboiledeggsagain · 28/11/2019 21:56

I did a 90deg wash on empty today and also boil washed shirts and polo's.
Clothes smell good now.

What about washing darker clothes on 60 once in a while?

Biological detergent. I love splosh products and our clothes smell amazing.

I cleaned the filters in mine last month and it has smelt so much better since.

I do a monthly hot wash on empty (no soap or anything).

Then every so months I do an empty hot wash with soda crystals and an empty hot wash with white vinegar.

I think alternating fabric softeners means that you don’t get immune to the scent and effectively stop smelling the niceness.
