ARGH! Cat wee wee smell in my new downstairs loo!! HELP!

Hi all,

We've just moved in to a lovely new home and are happy to have a downstairs loo. What luxury!!

Only problem is - the old inhabitants had their cat litter tray in the there and now it STINKS of cat pee. I hate it! Everything else in my house is lovely - apart from the cat pee loo!!

It's wooden floorboards and a very small space - how do I get rid of the smell!?! Can I even get rid of it? Will my downstairs loo smell like kitty wee forever!?

Help me neutralise this bad boy! What a pong!

Thanks everyone!! xx

Try an enzyme cleaner from the pet shop.

Simple solution from pets at home.

you need a special pee spray spray all over and soak for hours then scrub the floor with hot water with baking powder in it

keep doing that every week until its gone should notice a considerable difference after first scrub

enzyme cleaner from pet shop or bio washing powder.
sprinkle generously and hoover off.
use a mat for the loo to prevent other wee to add to the smell.

Years ago we had this problem on carpets, I used detoll and it worked!

I second bio washing powder. I used it when my dogs were pups

Zoflora mountain air with pet odour remover? You may have to clean thoroughly and allow to dry then clean again before you notice any difference. Or use a few different methods each time. Might take a while, good luck

don't forget to wash the walls as well in case some urine has gone into the walls as well.
a bit of bio washing powder in lukewarm water is good for that

MistressMind · 18/11/2019 08:05

Bio laundry detergent or the simple solution pet spray. Both will break down the molecules that are causing the smell. And YY to doing the walls too.

You could try a neutradol air freshener in there as a temp measure while you are sorting the problem.

I would also treat the area around the loo while you're doing it, and remove the loo seat and clean the hinge area thoroughly in case not all of the problem is cat related!!

White vinegar works wonders. Stinks at first but drys odour free and neutralizes the smell.
