Help please - dishwasher dispenser broken

My dishwasher tablet dispenser drawer has broken off. Can I just put the tablet in the bottom of the washing machine or will it be dissolved in prewash? Do I need to call electrician to fix it? Or is it easy to do yourself? Although I can't find a replacement online.

I think the dispenser is necessary. I suppose if you knew how long it normally takes before you hear the tablet drop, you could set a timer and pop the tablet in then but that would be a pain.

As to whether you could fix it yourself, that's surely dependent on the model and exactly what's broken.

I always put the tablet in the cutlery basket or in bottom of dw anyway as it seems to get stuck/ not fully dissolved in the dispenser. I don't use prewash tho

The plastic lid part of it has broken off. If I used a wash that didn't have a pre wash could I just put table at bottom of dishwasher?

It works fine for me....give it a go?

A dishwasher repair man once told me that the best place to put the tablet is on the cutlery basket, apparently it's most effective there.

I never use the dispenser-if often doesn’t release and dissolve properly. We balance it on the top shelf-seems to work best there.

Thanks for the replies. I have put the tablet in the cutlery basket and put it on a wash that doesn't include a prewash. Ill see how it turns out

Ours has a little 'lip' area on the front of the shelf , so if the dispenser flings the tablet out too forcefully it will sit there not in the base .

How old is the dishwasher? If you're planning to change it anytime soon, just put it on the cutlery basket ?

The dishwasher is 2 years old. Was hoping to not have to change it for a while. Should I get it repaired?

Just chuck it in the base, it will work fine.
