Defrosting freezer part of integrated fridge/freezer

One of the drawers was left slightly askew and gradually this has frosted up and prevented the door closing properly. Have been trying to defrost it since yesterday evening but it is so frosted up that I couldn't access the drain at the bottom nor remove the drawers (there isn't much in it as we have a stand alone as well). Because it is integrated I can't switch it off.

Almost a day later , having used many bowls of hot water and a scraper the drawers are still frozen in . If I close it up again how badly will it frost up over the weekend ? Will we be back to square one on Monday ?

What I would do is try and procure as many frozen freezer blocks as I could and put your perishables in a cool bag even maybe ask a nice friend/neighbour if they could help then turn the damn thing of and try to defrost it like that or even use a hairdryer.

Just thought; we had that problem once with my grans and dh used a paint scraper and a chisel for the surface ice, (but you can't use this to close to shell obviously)

thanks for the ideas. Can't find the plug to turn it off as it is built in . It has partially frozen up again while we've been out but will try again tomorrow.

When you say it's integrated, you mean the fridge and freezer have a single motor & thermostat or whatever it is?

if possible leave the door open, did mine from that state two weeks ago then my dad came and told me i would have been quicker to have used a WOODEN ateak hammer!

What a good idea MeAndMy a steak hammer, I would never have thought of that.

Integrated as in they are built into the kitchen so presumably share a power supply somewhere behind the unit in its cupboard.

This happened us and we had to call someone out to look at it. He turned off the entire unit (if the fridge door is kept shut it will retain the chill), and then used a hair drier (high tech eh!) to thaw it.
