Despite always washing my underwear with the whites, they start going grey, i've tried Ace laundry bleach but just can't seem to get them white again, any ideas?

Do you use washing powder?

RandomMess · 02/11/2019 21:45

Could be a sock or pair of pa ta stuck in the filter...

This happened to me!!! Filter had eaten a blue sock, gold bangle and a few other items! Lots of ruined whites for months and months!

Is there a reason you like white underwear? I haven't found a solution other than not to buy it but a nude colour is better under light coloured clothes anyway

dementedpixie · 02/11/2019 21:47

I mainly have nude stuff too

Cheap cheap dishwasher tablets can help. The big problem with some whites is that they're actually a cream material that's dyed white so no amount of bleach ever brings it back.

Do you do sole white loads? Colour catcher sheets are your friend if not. You could also consider dying them?

waltzingparrot · 02/11/2019 21:56

I put a colour catcher sheet in with my totally white washes and that still comes out a little bit grey but at least the whites stay white. I can only think it's either the inks on the clothes labels that leach a bit or the grey seal.

Cuddlysnowleopard · 02/11/2019 22:02

I put the whites in at 60°, bio washing powder a scoop of oxyaction white, and a colour catcher. Even DS's white socks stay white after that!

MollysMummy2010 · 02/11/2019 22:05

I don’t let my husband wash them.

rockingthelook · 02/11/2019 22:30

I always put sole whites in together with bio powder on a 60 wash, children's white school shirts are still white, it's just the white underwear that seems to be grey?, re. nude underwear, I'm aware it's better under white tops however I still like white under other clothing

Whites do off colour when Lycra begins to decay, either by age, or washing them too hot. I find that white undies stay white if you have wash them in hand-hot water.

60???

Who does a 60 other than on pure cotton???
Washing powders etc are designed for lower temperatures

dementedpixie · 02/11/2019 22:47

I wash most stuff on 40. 60 for towels/bedding

Cuddlysnowleopard · 03/11/2019 07:59

I used to do everything apart from towels and bedding on 40° but putting the whites on at 60° has made a massive difference.. DS prefers white pants and socks, spends half his free time rolling in mud. His stuff is actually white again.
