What do I use to clean the mattress? He must have had an accident in the night. He's 3.5 y o, still in pull-ups for the night but goes to the loo in the night and takes the pull up off...

So any ideas / experience of dealing with smelly mattresses? TIA.

Febreze! But tbh, after multiple accidents, I think ds2's mattress is just going to have to be replaced. "Waterproof" sheet seems to have let a lot through!

Really? I thought that waterproof sheets would be the answer.

Ds is coming towards the end of needing a pull-up at night, so I fear this is the first od many accidents...bless him...

Try spraying it with dettol and leaving it out to dry in the garden?

Put matttres outside to air and spray with lots of Febreeze

When DD wees on the carpet I cover the wet patch in lots of bicarb to soak it up with a couple of drops of tea tree oil mixed in. Then I leave it a while to dry out, hoover it up and then sponge down the area with a little white vinegar. That seems to work quite well - I suppose it could work with a mattress too

Thanks Dixiepixie - I'll do that one as I'm not v. keen on chemical stuff (the dc both have eczema, but I wouldn't be v. keen even if that weren't the case.) THe mattress is smothered in bicarb as we speak!
