I have a 10mo dd and have just discovered a flea on her. I have no pets and have been in my home for 1 year so I don't think it's from a previous tenant. We don't come into contact with animals on a regular basis so have no idea how fleas have gotten into my home or how to make sure there are no more. Due to the age of my dd I cannot use any sort of chemical on my carpets as she crawls everywhere and is learning to walk. Any help will be appreciated.

Fleas can't live on humans so if it was a flea you found, it's likely been picked up in someone else's house or from an animal outside. Immature fleas can survive dormant for six months so it's highly unlikely this one has survived in your house all this time. Keep an eye on things and if you see more, you can deal with them.

Are you sure it was a flea?

As a child my mum had a lot of pets but never bothered to give them flea treatment so I am sure it was a flea.
