How to revive matted part of rug?

It's a synthetic rug with roughly 1" tufts and is looking really flat and sad where my feet are most of the time.

I fluff it up with the vacuum cleaner but it still looks rubbish. I can't turn the rug as then the flat bit will be even more visible.

Is there any way to revive a flattened and matted bit of a synthetic rug?

Is it woven into the backing or just glued in?
If the latter all you cAn do is gently clean and comb it. If the former you can be a little firmer: massage in a carpet cleaner and brush through, over wet if necessary. Vacuum out the excess and allow to dry, then use a carpet rake or wide tooth comb to bring up the pile.

It's woven. Would wetting it not make it mat more?

Not sure if this would work on such a large area, but leaving an ice cube to melt on a piece of dented carpet is supposed to revive it.

Thank you both. I've tried your tips but unfortunately the rug still looks clumpy.
