Tumble dryer broken - help me choose a new one

So our tumble dryer smells like burning - not sure where it’s coming from, I’ve had the top and side off and can’t see much other than the foam coating on the drum is starting to come away so I suspect that is the issue. Anyway. It’s 6 years old and has been used and used and used.

So I’m thinking maybe it’s time for a new one. The old one is a condensing Bosch one and I could just replace like for like. Or should I consider a heat pump model? It looks like they take a long time, but do they leave the house less damp? What do you have and what would you recommend?

Why is your house damp with a condensing one? Water is in the tank, surely?

I have a heat pump one, just s cheap Beko one. It's not as quick as my previous condenser dryer.

I have a Bosch. About the most expensive you can buy. I wouldn't use a different brand. I would contact them abput the burning though!

Becco Currys £199 £60 off in the sales.
7kilo. Condenser.

I have a heat pump one, and previously had a condenser. I would go for the condenser next time as it is so much quicker!

I have a Bosch and it's fab, it's a condenser but the water pipe is plumbed in so no need to empty water out and don't have condensation ever.

The utility gets really steamy when it’s on - the water goes in the drawer but some of it escapes - plumbing it in might solve that. In our old house it didn’t matter because the utility had a decent fan and a velux. The new house doesn’t yet have a utility room (it has space but needs some help first).

DH bought a Bosch because a cool blue light comes on inside when the door is open.

Current dryer is Miele T1 classic(eco)condenser dryer never had a better one-its amazing.Got this in Jan&would never go back to regular dryer now..You just empty the compartment water onto your plants..has heaps of settings tho i just use express dry..senses the
clothing& never overdries or shrinks..worth every penny👌

foxatthewindow · 07/10/2019 09:41

Yep@OP bit exxy but got it on a deal with a miele washing machine&used a LOT/super energy efficientA++ so reckon it'll even out over the years 😂

I've had a heat pump dryer for three weeks. My previous one was a condenser (both AEG). I don't think my heat pump dryer takes much longer than my condenser to dry, perhaps 15 minutes. It's also A+++ energy rating.

Howtochoose · 08/10/2019 16:13

We have a Candy heat pump dryer.
Not as slow as I expected,no condensation etc and v energy efficient.
Highly recommend!
