Cleaning Pop Up Plug Hole

We've just changed the bathroom sink taps. The plug hole is different to the old one and I can't work out how to clean it. It has a pop up waste where you push it down to seal the plug and push again to release it.

Can anyone tell me how to remove the 'plug' so I can clean underneath? There must be some way to remove the thing. Do you unscrew it? I'm frightened of breaking it.

I deal with this by not cleaning it.

Unscrew it in my experience. Can take a bit of welly the first time.

Unscrew the plug. It might come by itself or with the springy thing. If by itself the springy post might unscrew separately. Give it a good soak in WD40 if it’s stuck. And even if it’s not. Did ours tonight. It was horrible.

Literally grab the top of the plug and rotate the whole thing anticlockwise?

We need to change ours and this would be a good first step! Thanks

I have one of these plugs. As pp said you twist it anti clockwise.

Fab, thank you. I feel daft for not having tried that
