Weekly shop

I'm writing down my weekly schedule and need to slot in my weekly shop. When do you do your supermarket shop? Weekend or weekday and around what time do you find best?

Why are you writing a schedule? Don't you just shop the same day every week.

Here's my schedule for the week

Mon ..... Work
Tues.......Work
Weds.......Work
Thurs.......Work
Friday.......Work
Sat......shopping
Sun .......sleep

Windsorian · 15/09/2019 21:13

No I've never done the shop on the same day. I've done it early Saturdays, late Saturdays, Weekdays at night and Sundays. I wasn't very organized and now im trying to be as it's driving me crazy since I end up going to the supermarket a couple of times a week (I'm a bit disorganized) 😭

I like doing click and collect shopping, it’s available at most big stores. The one I use is ASDA. I do all my shopping online in the evening, then collect it on the way home from work. I seem to spend less when I shop online too.

missmouse101 · 15/09/2019 21:23

I load it on on a Sunday, for Tuesday or Wednesday delivery. 6-8pm!

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 15/09/2019 21:25

DH does ours while I'm at swimming class with the kids. Is there any other thing you'll be at in the vicinity of the supermarket so you can do both at the same time or one after the other?

PhantomErik · 15/09/2019 21:27

I usually do a shop on monday mornings after dropping the dc to school.

I then try to avoid all supermarkets until Friday morning when I do a weekend top up.

Linnet · 15/09/2019 21:28

I do the food shopping on a Sunday at 4pm when dd is at an activity that she does.

Veronicat · 15/09/2019 21:29

I get mine delivered on a Sunday morning as its the only time I'm off work.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 15/09/2019 21:30

I'm a bit haphazard but my favourite is order it online on my lunchbreak at work on a Monday and do the click and collect and pick up at 5.30 on the drive home.

I always feel a tad smug when I sort that out.

ellsisland · 15/09/2019 21:31

I do the meal plan and order on Saturday and then get ours delivered on a Monday

Isthebigwomanhere · 15/09/2019 21:39

Always do shopping for a Monday
Order online Saturday for Monday delivery

namechangedforthis1980 · 15/09/2019 21:44

If I can, I avoid doing it at the weekend. This only works if I've been and done a top up shop at the end of the week

So, ideally Monday PM ( after work) and top up Thursday/Friday

Mamapop1 · 15/09/2019 22:15

In our pre kids days we used to shop on s Friday night. We'd go out for a meal and then do the shop. We live out in the countryside so it's a trek to the nearest town and it made it a nice event. It was also dead by 9/10pm.

Since having kids we decided that we don't want to either drag them to the shop (over an hour total in the car without the actual shopping time) or miss quality time with them/eachother to shop without the kids, so we now have a delivery Friday 6-7pm. If the kids are up they help unpack, if we are on bedtime one of us unloads while the other is with kids.

windmill121 · 15/09/2019 22:17

Home delivery during the weekend depending on what we our plans are

Flightlessbird17 · 15/09/2019 22:34

I always need at least 2 trips to the shops a week as I find veg and fruit never keeps long enough.

buckeejit · 15/09/2019 23:12

I'm there all the time but want to start a fortnightly meal plan rota with a couple of loose days & weekend top up. Will get a weekly delivery - saves so much time & effort

Ragwort · 15/09/2019 23:16

I just go as and when I need food, I hate the idea of deciding what I am going to eat in five or six days time .. however, I acknowledge that I work part time, have three different supermarkets very close by and don’t have to stick to a strict budget ... or feed a huge family.

WhyBirdStop · 16/09/2019 13:09

I do Tesco click and collect mainly, 3-7 slot on Friday, so DH collects it on his way home from work (drives past), or I will if he's working elsewhere. I like it better than delivery because it's free, and I'm not tied to the house as long as one of us pops there at some point in those 4 hours it's fine. I also very rarely get substitutions and the lovely Tesco man always gets us freebies/trials/vouchers usually DS related things. It takes two minutes, you pull up open the boot with your bags for life already laid out and just dump the shopping in, sign and go. It's my new favourite thing, we started doing it when I was heavily pregnant and had a pelvic injury.

WhyBirdStop · 16/09/2019 13:10

We have a milkman for milk and fruit juice/iced coffee and if we run out of essentials like bread, washing up liquid I can add them to the milk order up to the night before.

Bexta147 · 17/09/2019 07:13

I do a monthly meal plan and do a big shop once a month for all our meat, sauces, frozen stuff, tins and jars, crisps, biscuits etc
Then I go once or twice a week to top up on fresh stuff.

DelurkingAJ · 17/09/2019 08:12

Weekly online shop. Usually Thursday night. Top up run on Saturday or Sunday for anything I forgot or suddenly fancy.

Fluffycloudland77 · 21/09/2019 07:04

I get mine delivered.

ragged · 21/09/2019 07:29

I know the answer for many is Fridays. Supermarkets are heaving on Fridays, is when most folk shop.

SegregateMumBev · 21/09/2019 07:34

I find a Friday evening isn't too busy, unlike Sat or Sun daytime, when the fish counter isn't open anyway.

MustardScreams · 21/09/2019 07:44

Main shop delivered every other Monday, small top-up for the weekend on a Friday night.
