100% wool rug - how to clean?

We've just inherited a rug made by MIL. It needs a damn good clean before it goes down on my floor, but the dry cleaners say it's too big and won't take it.

Any ideas?

Hands & knees, soap & water

There are rug cleaning services if you want someone else to do it...

At home, we take it outside the garden and wash it there, takes a bit of elbow grease, but on a good summer day it can be fun.

Well for our really big blankets, we use the bath and wash it manually by hand (and feet yes!)
