Grease!!!

Please help!!! I've a lovely upcycled table which my ex managed to get grease on. The wood is untreated (wood stained but not varnished) so not sure if anything can be done any ideas? I was considering elbow grease but not sure if that will make the situation worse??

I'd try dabbing it with a tissue then wiping it with watered down washing washing up liquid.
Or you could try putting something like talc, cornflour, bicarb or salt on it to see if it draws out the grease.
