Cleaning a filthy grill pan

Any suggestions on how to clean a filthy grill pan?

I've ordered a kit online to clean the metal grill, it's the pan itself that's the problem. It has about 5 years of grease baked on to it (I have inherited it rather than let it get into this state!). So far I've tried washing up liquid and a scourer, and soaking it with a dishwasher tablet. Neither has worked.

Any suggestions?

Astonish have tablets for this it’s the one that’s used for electric fryers it’s a pound a box

Someone who came to clean my oven told me about something called Pink Stuff. Apparently it works wonders

Sgtmajormummy · 27/08/2019 07:50

This stuff.
Soak, then scrub.

MmeBufo · 27/08/2019 07:53

Oven Pride would probably fix it

Can't you just heat it up and add washing up liquid, then keep disposing of the grease?

Daffodil2018 · 27/08/2019 08:34

Thank you - lots of things for me to try here! I have tried using boiling water and washing up liquid several times over but the dirt is too baked on if you see what I mean.

Oven pride

You get a big bag, put it in there with the liquid and leave overnight

Works great with the shelves as well

Best £4 you’ll spend

I’d put hot water and soda crystals in, leave it to soak for half an hour and then have a go at scrubbing it.

A dishwasher tablet... soak and rub the tablet directly in to baked on stuff!

Inforthelonghaul · 27/08/2019 08:45

I second soda crystals and hot water.

Try a good soak in bio washing powder.

I have the Astonish Grease Lifter tablets for my deep fat fryer . Cannot really use things like a paste because of the mesh .

Instructions are to put the tablet+ the item in a pan and heat .
You can use the fryer and water and switch on but you need to watch it like a hawk so it doesn't boil over .

I may have to invest in a large cheapie stock pot type pan for this .(I can boil my pants in it too Grin )
I love the fryer but it's a bugger to clean. Dishwasher doesn;t remove it and a lot of chemicals cab't be used on it .

the pink stuff is a miracle worker for this. it's made my never-before-cleaned oven come up brand new. i also use soda crystals and hot water to soak the hob toppers (is that what they are called?!) weekly to get off burnt on food, so that method could also work for you.

Get some ammonia and pour it into a
sponge. Then put the sponge and the pan in a very strong bin liner and seal it up. Leave it in the sun for a couple of days and the dirt will fall off.

Oven Pride in the bag overnight. Absolutely no effort required at all. I cleaned a filthy grill pan a tenant hadn't cleaned in ages using it. Came up like new.

Id bin it and buy a new one.
