I am a big fan of Stain Devils but you need the right ones.

I use Vanish powder. IME you do have to soak the clothes in it first because if you wash without soaking then I think it sets the stain making it more difficult to come out. Unless the stains are very fresh in which case it is normally OK just to add some to the washing powder dispenser.

If they are white or pale colours you could try prewashing with Biotex. Seems to do the trick with ds's tomatoey stained clothing.

I have started using that Oxy stuff in the pink tub (they also do a white tub for white clothes). It is fantastic. All my kids (and hubby) are grown up now but sweat marks have come out as well as blood and toothpaste. I was really impressed with it. Even some white bras have come back to a nicer white.

I use Vanish stain sticks. Rub on with cold water. More effort but works really well on most 'organic' stains.

I find washing up liquid is great on most stains, especially oil based ones. I use vanish spray on sweat marks and dribble marks on the kids pillowcases - also very good.

I used to struggle with the normal pre-treaters and sometimes even with Vanish sticks, but the last time we went to Costco I got
this Vanish Dual Power

'tis marvellous

Stain devils work for certain stains but the best thing for baby food or tomatoey stains is just to leave them on the line for a few days, The sun seems to bleach any baby food stains out.

i was buying the vanish oxy pink stuff which is great, but there was none in tesco last time so i bought their own version which is much much cheaper and is just as good, if not better.
