musty smell in cupboards - ideas?

we have recently decorated a spare room, having moved in 12 months ago into a house where old people resided for 45 years! (obviously they weren't old for all of those years, but you know what i mean!) Mustiness pervades in the cupboards, the rest of the room is shiny new now and i want to load up the wardrobe etc with my clothes. Any easy ways to get rid of the smell?

I've washed them with soapy water and cleaning spary stuff but still lingering...

is there carpet in the cupboards? if there is, prib best to dump it...then spray with that oust stuff...or lemon juice and bicarb if you wanna be eco-friendlier?

no carpet, no damp but just stale, doors all open now and windows - fingers crossed
