Keeping greetings cards?

I have a whole drawer under my bed (so a big drawer!) full of cards i.e. Birthday, Mother's Day, thank you, valentines etc.. the drawer I saw so full I cannot close it. I feel terrible getting rid of them, so wondered what others did. I do keep Christmas cards for one year and look through them the following Christmas and if I've lost someone during that year, I keep that card (sounds morbid, but I love the fact they handled and wrote it with their handwritting and I think of them fondly). What do you do with all other cards?

I put them in the recycling bin

Special cards I want to keep I put in a plastic button folder (like a big envelope) and keep them all together in an Ikea Skubb box it's one they sell as a greetings card/wrapping paper organiser.

I bin all but particularly special ones. Who has room physically or mentally for all that?

Waffles80 · 20/08/2019 08:34

My kids cut them up to make new cards / art projects / craft. and then it all gets recycled

I am very happy I still have a few cards from my late grandmas so I always keep a few cards from special people, especially if they say more just than ‘love from’.

Most of my cards get recycled, unless they’re especially special for some reason.

I only ever keep the ones that my kids have made. Why keep shop bought ones? They go in the recycling bin after a week.

I put most of them in a box and filter through them once a year. I tend to keep all cards from my husband and ones for special occasions like our wedding, and then one or two from other people, eg a birthday card from my parents but not from each year.

Thanks all. I had a clear out last night and now can shut the drawer Smile

For my DCs I keep ours to them, and both sets of GPs’. Sometimes I might keep cards from their best friends if they have cute messages or pictures in them.

I don’t keep any of our birthday cards, except I kept the last one my DH got from his DM (we knew it would be the last).

I kept all the Christening/baby and Wedding cards. Christmas cards are recycled into tags if they’ve a nice picture and the back of the front is clear of writing or charity info. Any glittery/jewelled/plastic covered in the bin, all others in the recycling.

I do exactly that - keep special ones such as 40th birthday 1st valentines card from OH etc & the last years birthday/christmas cards from all family members so i'll always have the last one they sent me

newtlover · 21/08/2019 19:22

any that I like the image on I cut the back off and re use as a note card
christmas ones, become gift tags
