Starting a deep clean today

Making a thread so I can post my progress lol!

I have a couple of days coming up where I can really give the house a good clean/tidy. Need to get it done before term starts again and the madness begins.

Planning to be ruthless with clutter and clean everything too! Starting with the sideboard once I have had a shower - stuff in there that's been there for years and is never touched. It's clearly not needed!

All welcome to join me if you wish and I will update in a bit Grin

Bedroom cleaned & bedding back on bed. Flagging a little now, going to put some pasta on for lunch and quickly swizz the bathroom whilst it’s cooking, the bathroom isn’t too bad as I deep blitzed it a few weeks ago. Roomba can vacuum upstairs whilst I eat lunch.

After lunch start putting clean/dry clothes away, and haul the carpet washer upstairs and do up here too. Then later I can potter and start doing twiddly bits, pick a few areas/drawers etc to focus on a mini declutter/reorganise. Make sure work uniform ready for tomorrow.

Was invited out to dinner earlier so lost some time today. Came home & went into a bit of a food coma so have only now finished my wardrobe. Got 2 large bags of clothes & 1 bag of shoes for charity shop. Feeling great.

Sounds like a decent clearout Also well done!

I’m done for the day. All the carpets (apart from spare junk room of doom ) have been hoovered and washed. Amazing amount of dirt came out of them, pretty shameful really. 1.5 bags of rubbish gone, 3 loads of laundry done, bedroom, bathroom and living room look reasonably straight and surfaces at least wiped down if nothing else.

I’m pretty proud of what I’ve achieved. Hopefully this will improve my mood a bit this week Smile

In between other jobs...

Our bedroom all done. Clothes sorted/chucked/charity. Drawers and wardrobe all tidied and re-packed.

All clutter decluttered (thrown away/donated) and drawers wiped down and re packed.

All furniture dragged out, deep hoover, wiped skirting boards!

Re made bed. Moved stuff into loft....

Sounds not like much, but... Blimey! It was a lot of work!

KindnessCrusader · 18/08/2019 19:49

@Kyvia which machine did you go for? I bought a Vax one but it was useless and I sent it back!

00100001 · 18/08/2019 20:23

We're two rooms down at present... Renovation work due to happen tomorrow for our utility room.... All a uff would be stored in spare bedroom, but they need to take the floorboards up for new electrics.... So everything from those rooms is spread about the house

But spare room will be ours again by Tuesday.. so that will have agood clean and sort out on the way "back in"

.... Am doing bathroom tomorrow, sorting through lotions and potions and such like.

Place marking. I have a frozen shoulder. Started a job 3 weeks ago, part time. My DDs are close to 18 so they can do their own washing and sort their own rooms. DH, works from home, does lots of housework, also create lots of mess too. My biggest problem is my over stuffed wardrobe. Can’t face sorting it right now. Maybe next week.

Well done everyone and good luck to the ones who are struggling.

Brew Cake all round.

YorkshireLawyer · 19/08/2019 07:57

Well done @Kyvia, sounds like you made great progress! I got probably 90% through the bedrooms. Still got a bit to do in ours and windowsills in all three to wash, windows to clean. Will try and achieve that today. Did three loads of washing yesterday, changed all the beds and two hours of ironing too!

Plan for today is to finish the bedrooms and tackle the main living room. It’s not too bad, just need to have a decent sort through the DCs toys to see if there’s anything to be charity shopped/chucked. That’ll be easier said than done with them at home today Grin. Good luck to everyone else who’s continuing today!

Today's plan is to clean the kitchen and to get through the mountain of washing.I aim to wash, dry and put away. Hopefully not too much Ironing to do.

Clear dining area
Move DD3s books upstairs
Sort and put away Clothes
Hang out Clothes
Put on a Wash
Wash Dishes
Clear and Clean Counters
Sweep Floor

Entrance Hall cleared, hoovered and wiped down.

Might start the living room after lunch... Might do the landing...

Kyvia · 20/08/2019 07:38

Hope you got on ok yesterday and 001

@KindnessCrusader mine is a vax ‘dual power’ one and I was very impressed with the first pass, certainly not useless, now carpets have fully dried however (and it’s daylight) I can see places I’ve missed/not done properly but I’ll reserve judgement until I take a second pass, my carpets were very grim (now only half grim lol) and clearly the remaining dirty stripes/patches only show up so much because the other bits are proper clean like!

I worked 14hr shift yesterday, will be 12hrs most of this week apart from Thursday which is taken up with visitors. But I have the whole bank holiday weekend off (and DP working sun & mon) so will do more then. The house feels so much lighter after Sunday’s efforts. Definitely worth it.

prettygirlincrimsonrose · 20/08/2019 09:52

Can I join? Got three days leave this week to do a lot of sorting without toddler DS causing chaos. Yesterday I did some gardening, tidying, cleaning, sorting, contacting builders and photographing things for ebay. Today I've not really done anything yet and I can see the day disappearing because I really want to just sit here and binge watch The Boys. Would like to have somewhere to post back at lunchtime and show I've actually done stuff.

Hope you're all getting on ok.

Kyvia · 21/08/2019 05:55

How did you do crimsonrose?

Thing is - a day spent doing ‘nothing’ (binge watching whatever etc) is probably just as important in terms of self-care/mental wellbeing at times. Especially if you already had a day of achievement.
