Dealing with orange speckles of mould - an tips?

Hi all,

I was doing a bit of a spring clean and found that things like toys or ornaments were getting little patches of either orange dots or regular mould on them, and some of my books when you look at the pages where getting brown spots.

Does anyone know what causes this? These are things I've just had out on the shelf, not in a humid environment and I try and keep the house ventilated.

And any ideas on how to clean the books / are they now destroyed?

I swear mould just follows me around like a plague :(

Are they really tiny dots? The only little orange dots I have seen are fly or spider poop. Maybe include a photo.

Sounds like foxing on the books, it’s unsightly but not harmful.
