Washer dryer smell

Evening wise Mumsneters, I am just looking for some advise please.....I have a newish washer dryer (I've had it for about 2 months now and bought it new) no matter what I do I cannot get clothes to smell fresh after been dried in there. It's not the washing machine because clothes dried on the line smell beautiful, however after been through the extremely long drying process they smell what I can only describe as musty. I use good quality wash liquid. I use fabric softeners. I have tried using them perfume Pearl things. I have also tried stopping after a wash cycle and putting in a dryer sheet. Even with only a few items I have the same issue. Are all washer dryers like this??? I am used to a vented dryer. Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm not sure but for me, drying clothes make them smell horrible, like metal or steam from an iron...like a dry cleaner smell. I absolutely hate it. I believe there are nice smelling sheets you put in the dryer with your clothes to make them smell nice. When mine are dried on the hangers they smell favourite but when dried on the dryer they smell weird...

I have the same problem, it's a little better if I dry for a slightly shorter time then stick a dryer sheet in ( Lenor ) for 10 mins. It's not much better but takes the edge off it

I don't tumble dry much, only towels and bedding if the weather isn't good enough

Thanks both, I will try stopping it when damp and putting the sheet in. I love being able to smell fabric softener on my clothes, it's really stressing me out Angry

You need some woolly balls. They look a bit like fuzzy tennis balls. Pop them in just before the drier stage with a bit of essential oil on then and laundry will smell lovey. I got mine in the pound shops but have seen them in Morrisons and elsewhere. AlwAys leave your washer door open in between use and once in a while do a boil wash with no laundry but strong detergent like daz. You could also try some white vinegar in your detergent draw to soften clothes.
