Light timer switch feels hot :(

Panicking here! Going away at the weekend for two weeks and a few days ago I realised that the mechanical timer plug for my lamps that switches the lights on/off while I'm away was feeling warm.

So I bought a good quality digital timer plug in device from TLC (electrical goods specialist) and that's even hotter. I pulled it out and the three gold pins were burning hot. After just 6 hours of being plugged into my surge guard extension lead (nothing else plugged in and my light is just a small lamp.

I'm now feeling really anxious about fires and going away. Probably too late to get an electrician in tomorrow.

Any advice?
Thank you

Try it in another socket.
