Super-king bed problems!

I bought what I thought was my dream bed, and solution to my problems as DP is a very active sleeper and it gives us enough space for this to not be a problem. However it's now driving me insane.

It's an extra deep latex topped mattress, around 35cm. I'm not sure if any of that is part of the problem.

The first problem is that we cannot get a sheet to stay on. We've tried multiple sheets from standard, to extra and even ultra deep and none seem to fit properly. We end up with extra material bunching over the bed and the corners pop up and off so easily.

The second issue is the duvet. No matter what we do there is excess duver cover at the top. (And yes, the duvet is the right way around, we did have it wrong initially!)

It's driving me mad! I'm someone who likes a neat, cosy bed and I'm having to spend 10 minutes every night trying to sort the bed out. I'm also pregnant for the first time and the added hormones are just making this too much (plus I'm concerned for how awkward it'll be when I'm further along).

I'm considering buying a king size even, except I'm worried we will have the same issue. I would happily buy a different super king duvet and even mattress at this point if I could guarantee it wouldn't happen again.

Has anyone else had these problems, and found a solution that actually works please?

I am not able to check as I am on holiday but super king beds are sometimes 6ft long and sometimes 6'6 long.

We have a zip and link super king bed, we have had issues with sheets in the past but measured the mattress etc and now they fit fine. Duvet covers from Next, Debenhams and Wayfair all fit fine. Duvet is from Debenhams.

You need to measure your bed both length wise and the depth of the mattress. Plus re measure your duvet too.

I have a king size tempur mattress which is really thick, I buy extra deep king size sheets and they fit absolutely fine. Are you sure the sizing isn’t off?

Say you’ve bought an Ikea mattress (which can be a peculiar size) and are trying to use standard super king sheets?

Any recommendations for super king beds? I want one and am finding it hard to find one I like. Also mattress.

You may have solved your problem now, but what I do with ours, as it drove me mad when the heavy duvet slipped to the bottom of the cover overnight leaving me with just duvet for the top 12-18 inches was to sew buttons on.
I did have an all seasons so the 9 tog already had buttons on. I turned the cover inside out and lined up the edges and made some button holes with a chunky bit of elastic and sewed it in the right place, so it no longer slips. Really handy when changing the duvet cover too as you just button it up and pull the cover down, no trying to hold the corners and pull down st the same time.
I also labelled the corners of my duvet, TR, top right, BR, bottom right etc so I know it's the right way round, no guess work.
For the sheets I add some elastic clips that I got in Lakeland, officially for keeping the ironing board cover in place but work well.

@ShakespearesSisters This is the sort of solution I have been looking for, can you come and do mine now!? Grin seriously though, why do not all duvets and covers have this kind of thing.

ShakespearesSisters · 16/08/2019 17:18

It does take a bit of time to sew them in, but definitely worth it. No more slipping duvets Grin

We have a super king also and we've never had these issues, I just buy white super king bedding from amazon and it all fits fine. So I'd also think something is the wrong size,

Ifonlyiweretaller · 28/08/2019 22:52

I have the same problem with the duvet cover on my superking bed. Even when we
Put it on, it feels like there is too much fabric for the quilt, yet i know the duvet is standard king size. so why do the (ridiculously expensive) White Company duvet covers not fit properly?

And don't get me started about how huge their super king flat sheets are. I'm certain a king size would be adequate but didn't know that when we bought the super king ones. I love the quality but the sizing drives me nuts!

theconstantinoplegardener · 28/08/2019 23:17

We also find ourselves clutching an empty duvet cover in our superking bed. Our duvet and duvet cover are both from John Lewis, so they should fit each other! And they did initially, but the duvet cover seems to have stretched over the years. I have tried boil-washing it, to no avail. I have to remember to shake the duvet back up the duvet cover each morning. I think I will try Sliding or Shakespeare's suggestion.

boobybum · 28/08/2019 23:22

Try some bed sheet holders/braces. We got some cheaply from amazon and they have sorted the slipping sheets.

Nat6999 · 28/08/2019 23:23

I always buy a size bigger flat sheets than the size bed & extra deep fitted sheets from Dunelm. I have just found out that the reason Duvet covers don't fit properly is because most people put their duvet in the cover so the channels run from top to bottom of the bed, put it in so the channels run across & the cover will fit perfectly, obviously this doesn't work on single duvets. I always have my duvets & cover a size bigger than the bed.

Ifonlyiweretaller · 29/08/2019 08:38

@Nat699 I do put mine in the correct way - Mind you it took me years to realise I was putting it in the wrong way round! But the cover is still way too big for the duvet!
