Rug doctors - any good?

Has anyone used one of those Rug Doctors carpet cleaners that you can hire from various places? If so are they easy or tricky? Am sick of the state of my carpets, they are shameful

They're okay for light soiling. Have you priced up getting someone in to do them - we found it wasn't much more and we made them go over one carpet 3 times 'cos the stains weren't coming out!

I used one on quite stained carpets (well DH did) and found them very good.

Was nice to have clean carpets for a while[sigh]
