My Carpet Honks!

I think it's old milk. I tried washing the smelly area but it has reactivated the smell and now it stinks out the whole house.
Do I hire a machine and do it myself or get some one in, then do I get a steam person in or a dry cleaning person?
Is there anything I can do myself in the meantime?

sprinkle generously with bicarb, leave overnight, hoover off

cheap, easy and worth a try before shelling out...

Try cleaning with bicarb & white vinegar, we had to do this when ds spilt a cup of milk on the carpet it worked but it was constant scrubing & lots of bicab & white vinegar, goodluck.

In Germany there is a brilliant and very cheap product called schmierseife, which cleans carpets. Not sure if you can get it in the UK.
