My friend gave me her old highchair as she didnt need it anymore and we had just had DD2 and our old one wouldnt fit in our mew dining room.

Great!

Except the plastic seat cover has a real foul smell and I cant get rid of it (and am too embaressed to ask my friend what it is ), it seems to be in the sponge inside the seat cover, but only in the section you sit on.

Have tried leaving it to soak in hot soapy water, have tried steam cleaning it, have tried washing it in the washing machine with anything I could think of, have tried febreeze, the smell has decreased quite a lot, but is still there and don't know what else to try.

Discovered I could get a replacement cover but they are £40!! its a M&P - Prima Pappa if that helps!

Bicarb of soda? Shake on foam if you can, and then hoover off a good couple of hours later??

Sadly I can only get at the foam inside to 2 very small holes, just big enough to get my steam cleaner nozel through but not a lot else!

Maybe if I made up a bath of bicarb and let it soak in? Do you think that would work?

I would shake the bicarb in through the two holes, leave it overnight and then do a soak in hot soapy water - see if that does the trick?

could you slit the cover on the bottom take out the foam, wash then put it back in the slit. Then put duck tape or similar over the slit.

Put it back in the washing machine, and wash with a few drops of tee tree oil.

Will try the bi-carb and the tea tree oil, have both to hand.

Furball my last resort is going to be cutting it open and removing the foam, am just hoping to have to avoid that.
