Does that calgon stuff work or is it a gimmick? How do I de-scale my washing machine? I'm imagining if it is under the door seal it is probably all around the pipes...

Run a hot wash cycle with soda crystals. You can get them in hardware stores and I have seen them in Tesco. Do it once a month and it keeps the pipes free from crud and helps your machine draining well. Dunno about Calgon...?

My OH works in the industry and i wouldnt bother with Calgon he says that it is just an unnecessary add on which no one needs. If you do a maintenance wash once a month on your machine then that should be enough, just use a decent bleach containing detergent at the hotest temp your machine can go to and run it empty, try to stay away from liquid detergents as they are not very good for the machine stick with powder.
