Dining table

We live in a small house so I have sold our large dining table that was taking up half the living room, there is only 80x50 cm space for a table in the corner of the living room that I would be ok with, I have found one that fits for the children to use but wonder if it’s even worth it as We prefer to eat our meals on the sofa. Christmas lunch and birthday meals would be nice for having a table as that’s usually only when we Set it up but we wouldn’t get use out of one day to day. What do you do for Christmas and birthdays if you don’t have a table/ small table? I’m trying to decide if I should boycott tables altogether. No space to store a foldable one either. Tia

It's an impossible question really, isn't it? Should I have a table when I don't have space for one?

All I can suggest is you get creative with storing a foldaway table - put it under a sofa or bed, or get one of the super-small camping ones where the top rolls up. Or a coffee table that does double duty as a dining table, but these tend to be expensive and if you don't have space for a dining table, you may not want a coffee table either.

The most efficient small-to-big tables I think are flip top ones, where extending it doubles the area. But I think you'd struggle to get one 80x50. A gateleg is not really suitable unless you can get a really tiny one as they're not very usable until you have one side up.

I can't get my head round not having a table at all - my kids have always eaten round one. They outgrew kneeling up to the coffee table ages ago but I still wouldn"t want them to eat bolognese balanced on their laps. But, you have to do what works for your family and if you don't need one, and you don't have space for one, then there's your answer.
