Left DD's lovely white cardi and linen trousers in the machine by accident then did a darks wash, am so annoyed as am so careful usually about separating them. They aren't actually dyed but now just look old and greyish and I wouldn't want her to wear them "for best" now which they were before. Anyone know what I can do? Am soaking them in water overnight with a bit of vanish spray in as thats all I've got. We are away at a wedding this weekend and wanted her to wear them the day after the wedding so need something to do tonight really.

What about this? Not used it myself but looks like it might help.

Some people say vinegar's good (white vinegar I assume) for getting whites nice and white.

Found the Dylon stuff here

oh thanks, will try that and if it fails she'll have to wear something else sunday and I'll get that stuff to do another time and for future mishaps!

You can a tea cup full of bleach in a bucket of water and soak the linen trousers in that for half an hour or so and then wash on a hot wash.

If the cardi is 100% cotton you can do the same, otherwise I would just try vinegar if it is a more delicate fabric.

Have done the bleach thing on a couple of white cotton tops that got turned grey by a stray sock, and it does work!

Ashamed to admit it but I watched Anthea Turner's perfect housewife program the other day - she says put a scoop of bicarbonate soda in with the washing powder to get whites white.

ooh thanks both, will try the bi carb and vinegar on the cardi as it is woolen, will probably resort to bleach for the trousers though as my vanish idea didn't work. Btw, DM, I watch it too and was frantically trying to remember if I'd ever heard her talk about this sort of thing!
