Getting wee smell out of carpet

TheBigBallOfOil · 30/06/2019 14:25

Ds did a sleep wee yesterday all over bathroom floor. So far I have cleaned with solution of zoflora, fairy liquid, and solution of biological washing liquid. Hoping the latter will work but have nasty feeling it will still be niffy when dried ... any ideas?

White vinegar appears to be the answer to all cleaning problems.
The smell of vinegar soon dissipates

Thank you. I have some of that. Excellent

I have used Febreeze to great effect for this. There was no trace once the smell of the Febreeze evaporated.

Shaving foam.

Hot soapy water (I use bio for this sort of thing). Dry with old towels as much as you can. Repeat with white vinegar. Sprinkle over bicarb, brush in and leave overnight. Vacuum.

If it persists, you need hydrogen peroxide but that can bleach, so may not be suitable.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 30/06/2019 22:16

4under would that work on carpet? I've heard it works on wooden floors.

4under4our · 01/07/2019 08:24

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz I've used on carpet, yes! Also use on mattresses after night time accidents.

Cloudtree · 01/07/2019 08:26

Not the point of the thread I know but if your DS's wee smells that strong then that probably indicates he was dehydrated so that's something you should keep an eye on.

Dr Beckmann carpet cleaner is ace! Gets all smells out.

TheBigBallOfOil · 01/07/2019 16:11

It was first wee night of the morning after a hot night so that’s quite likely, cloudtree. Weirdly though, it didn’t really smell too much at first but now it’s bloody awful!!

I suspect its in the underlay. If so it can be difficult to get rid of the smell.

TheBigBallOfOil · 01/07/2019 16:22

Fuckity fuck
Oh well I didn’t like that carpet anyway

I was going to say Zoflora. It's the only thing that works for me, but you've tried it already. A different scent of zoflora maybe?

ParadiseLaundry · 01/07/2019 16:32

Although you said you tried it, bio washing powder is meant to be good for urine smells - but the key is to keep it wet for a few hours as apparently the enzymes work better with moisture. I think you can put a damp tea towel over it to keep it moist.

Bicarbonate of soda, sprinkle on leave for an hour and then hoover

TheBigBallOfOil · 01/07/2019 17:42

With white vinegar- dilute it, yes? How much?

The zoflora pets version is the only thing that gets dog wee smell out for me
