Am looking to get some nice soft, absorbent towels ... the luxurious type you get in fancy hotels - would you recommend Dunelm or John Lewis?

Try king of cotton. Their dressing gowns are amazing and so is their bedding. They supply to the hospitality industry.

Hotel towels by Mitre Linen (I found them because of the fabulous towels at a boutique hotel we were staying at some years ago).

I bought some from Costco (hand towels and bath towels)
I think there's a bale of 12 hand towels and a bale of 6 bath towels .
Marketed as a hosptality item for I'm guessing guest houses /hotels . Nice enough to use , tough enough to wish stand wear/tear/washing but not ££ to break your heart if someone pinches them !

Good quality , price , not 'fluffy' but dry really well.

Or I like Ikea , their textured towels are lovely and dry well.

I've had loads from John Lewis; the last batch are 7 years old, still super fluffy and have washed really well.

Look up the Sheridan brand, I think john Lewis stock them. Lovely, thick and heavy.

Christie's.
John Lewis but go for the expensive ones.
M&S.
TK Maxx might be worth a try.
Don't use fabric conditioner.
