Do I need to buy a new fridge?

Have rummaged about with hole at back as advised on recent thread - nothing at all. Fridge freezes all down back wall and all my food is permanently frozen, have lost count of how much stuff i am wasting.
So, do I need a new fridge? Do I need to muck about with the fridge's temperature thingy? Do I need to be a 1950s housewife and shop daily? (tho we would surely starve). Help!

read manual

remove all food
turn off / unplug
defrost and wipe dry

hoover tubey bits on back of fridge (will be covered in dust and cat hair)

replug
turn on
set temp knob to what manual says should be 4ºC

replace food

check next morning for freezyness
if food frozen, turn temp knob warmer
if not frozen, job done.

You are a gem!
(How did you know I have a dusty cat hair ridden home??)
Will have to wait for dh to come home to move fridge out for me to get to plug.

interesting about the 4*C bit, manual long gone...

Thank You!!!!

everyone's fridge is covered in dust and cat hair, tis a fact of life.

It is worth googling for the manual though - lots of places have them for download now - as it'll tell you whether higher numbers on the temp knob mean 'warmer fridge' or 'colder fridge' - they do vary
