Okay...some people will either laugh at this question or be like “how do you not know this!!” Anyways...

How do I section my laundry? Ie
Whites darks lights
How do I wash bedding, towels, baby clothes, sports clothes, jackets, trainers, , bras, underwear, denim...

It’s ALL confusing to me and I could ready every single label and still get it wrong

HELP!!!

I do separate washes for whites, darks, colours, reds, towels, shirts and tea-towels. 40 degree wash except bedding/towels/tea towels which I do at 60.

Oh, and I wash my dresses separately on delicates cycle (they are mostly not delicate, but I wear a dress every day and I'm trying to make them last longer). Stockings I also wash separately on delicates cycle, pre-soaked in a capful of laundry cleanser to freshen up the feet Blush

My machine has a shirts setting which is great as everything comes out nice and uncreased. DH chucks everything in together much more, results don't seem to differ too much although he hopes I don't notice when a rogue pair of white knickers comes back pink from time to time

I separate into 3 piles, white only, darks (black and navy) and other (brights or black and white stripes anything that isn’t white or dark!)
Everything gets washed at 30/40 degrees here (Unless sickness bug etc when I will go up to 60 if the fabric will be able to handle it).
I use biological powder and a scoop of vanish for the whites. Colour liquid gel and a scoop of soda crystals for the darks and other.
White vinegar instead of fabric conditioner in every wash.

If something is really dirty such as mud covered trousers, I’ll put them in first on a 20 min quick wash before adding the rest of the laundry to make up a full load.

I do light washes or dark washes (normally one of each every week) at 40 degrees. Bedding normally on its own and at a higher temperature.

FannyFeatures · 20/06/2019 15:39

Dark load = black and dark colours
Colours = bright/light colours
Whites = needs no explanation really!

Towels just go in wherever they fit in and bedding goes on its own on a 60 wash.

Lifestyle is too short to stress about this stuff!

AppleDump · 20/06/2019 16:49

Same as @FannyFeatures (fab name btw) except towels at 60.

melissasummerfield · 20/06/2019 17:00

I just do whites at 60 degrees ( mucky kids polos ) and everything else washes at 40 degrees

I do wash bedding on a hot wash though

Towels just go in with the normal washing however we are a one use family Blush

Throw stuff (of any colour/fabric) in til its full, turn the dial to 'mixed' (or rather leave the dial as it as it rarely moves) and set the temp to 40 degrees. Non bio capsule thrown in the drum and some flowery smelly fabric conditioner in the drawer. I've never had white knickers/socks come out pink. If towels or bedding the temp gets turned to 60. I also have a couple mesh bag things for bras and trainers - like £3 on amazon.

I moved out of my parents house having never even turned a washing machine on, I used to do the whole separation thing then I realised I was spending twice as long sorting clothes than I did buying the stuff and decided to knock that on the head. The only stuff that gets special treatment now is the whites - when they start going a bit grey I put them in a bag, when the bag is full I quarter fill the bath and chuck a load of bleach in then the whites thrown in after and left over night. Rinsed under the shower head in the morning then put in the machine to wash - lovely bright whites again (and miles cheaper the Vanish!)

@ChocolateHouse
I love you. Even though you can’t possibly have any decent clothes left 😂😂😂

theneverendinglaundry · 20/06/2019 19:33

Clothes are sorted into whites, colours and dark. Washed at 40 degrees.

Towels, cleaning cloths, wipes washed at 60 with no softener.

Bedding washed at 60.

Same detergent used for everything - currently Daz powder. Soda Crystal's also added to the wash to soften the water.

Occasional slosh of Ace if anything is stained.

ChocolateHouse · 20/06/2019 20:03

user I actually have a nice selection of clothes though I will admit there are a few rags in the back of my wardrobe - but that's mainly because those clothes are very very old 😂 (and tbf I'm due a update, it's been a long while since I've bought new clothes.. I might just do that next week!)

An2018 · 25/06/2019 14:04

Thanks everyone I now can separate clothes into 4 piles instead of 10 😂

I have four laundry hamper:
White/Black/Light Colour/Dark Colours

And I'm an utter detergent whore .
I have Non Bio/Colour/Bio/Gentle Wash (all Tesco or Waitrose)

I divide the hampers up into fragile or not bovvered

Anything like bras or DD expensive underwear in a padded bag. Things that can go out of shape in net bags .
Then I decide on the temp./ detergent .

Towels are washed in a 60c , bedding at 40c
